On Wednesday, July 3rd we set out in our 5th wheel for our first camping trip to the Grand Canyon. It was also our longest camping trip to date and Landon's second camping trip. On Wednesday we made our way to Williams. Just outside of Williams was our campground. Justin found a KOA campground (another first for us, we have never stayed at a KOA campground before) it had hookup like water and electricity which is always a plus when camping in our trailer. The KOA was so nice!!!! It was one of the best campgrounds we have ever stayed in. It was so kid friendly with a general store, indoor swimming pool, playground, bikes you could rent, putt putt golf, and panning for jewels. The kids absolutely loved it!!! We stayed here Wednesday afternoon and night. The next morning July 4th we headed out to Tusayan the town right outside the Grand Canyon. We stayed at a campground about 3-5 miles outside of the Grand Canyon. This campground was nice because it was located right in town but still close to the Grand Canyon. Later that day after we were all set up we went drove to see Bearizona a wildlife park close to Williams. At Bearizona you drive through different exhibits in your car and see bears and other animals. Then once you have driven through the outdoor exhibits you can get out of your car and go inside a different portion of the park see some of their smaller animal. The kids got a big kick out of see the bears we even named a few bears like Scratchy the Bear, and Stinky the Bear (Stinky was our favorite).
Friday, July 5th we headed to the Grand Canyon Park. Emma learned about the Grand Canyon this year in first grade, which was one of the main reasons we decided to go to the Grand Canyon. She was so excited to see the place that she had learned about. We went to the Grand Canyon at 8:30am and didn't leave til almost 5pm. We had such a great time walking around the canyon, eating lunch, riding the bus system that they have in the park to take you to different points of the Grand Canyon. Overall it was a wonderful day spent looking at the most amazing creation!
Saturday, July 6th morning we went to the IMAX that was located in Tusayan to see the Grand Canyon movie. The kiddos have never been to an IMAX before and they couldn't get over how big the screen was. The movie was really well made by the National Geographic and we ended up buying it to bring home because the kids wanted to be able to watch it again and again. After our movie we hooked up the trailer and headed back to our first campground the KOA outside of Williams to spend the rest of our Saturday and our night there before heading home. Once we were back at the KOA we played golf and went on the playground, panned for jewels, got ice cream, and took a tracker trailer ride around the campground. Later that afternoon we headed into Williams to visit Route 66. The kids had a great time walking the different shops and eating at one of the Route 66 restaurants. It also rained on us while we were sightseeing which was really nice!
Sunday we packed up and headed home. It was bittersweet, the kids really weren't ready to come home, they were having such a great time, but as always good things have to come to an end sometime. Driving home Justin and I agreed that this camping trip was by far our best camping trip we have taken! It really has motivated us to visit more of the other national parks.
More pictures from our camping trip to come, Justin is editing them! For now enjoy a few pictures from our cell phones.
